Coral Reefs have been called the rain forest of the ocean. Corals are small animals that belong to the phylum Cnidaria with sea anemones, jellyfish, and hydroids. Coral reefs are usually found in tropical and sub-tropical waters around the world. The largest coral reef on Earth is the Great Barrier Reef that runs along the eastern coast of Australia. This massive reef runs along more than 2,000 km. Some animals frequently seen in are sea fans, sharks, butterfly fish, sea stars, cuttlefish, and clownfish. Also some reptiles such as turtles and sea snakes live in coral reefs. One problem that coral reefs have is that changes are happening so fast that many animals like coral reefs can't keep up with it. Another problem is fishing, when to many fish are taken out of a system the balance is disturbed. Some very destructive methods of fishing like cyanide and dynamite blow away part of the reefs and in many circumstances can take years for the reef to recover. Also globe warming is also causing the sea temperatures to rise, even though coral reefs need relatively warm water to survive there is a limit.
